Shubman Gill likely to represent Glamorgan in ongoing County Championship
Team India’s young gun Shubman Gill is expected to play for Glamorgan in the ongoing 2022 County Championship if the batter’s visa is cleared. The right-handed batter was in red-hot form against Zimbabwe in the three-match ODI series as he stroked 200+ runs in three fixtures and was adjudged the Player of the Series.
If Gill’s visa is cleared, then he will become the sixth Indian player to play in County Championship this season. Earlier, Cheteshwar Pujara (Sussex), Washington Sundar (Lancashire), Mohammed Siraj (Warwickshire), Umesh Yadav (Middlesex), and Navdeep Saini (Kent) marked their presence in the competition.
Gill will become the third Indian to play for Glamorgan in the County Championship
To note, Gill will become the third Indian to play for Glamorgan in the County Championship after veteran Ravi Shastri (1987-91) and former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly (2005). Talking more about Gill, the right-handed batter stroked his first international century against Zimbabwe during the third ODI fixture and helped his team to whitewash the home side.
Gill, who was named the Player of the Match, dedicated his match-winning knock to his father, “My father has been my primary coach. I got a bit of schooling the day before yesterday when I was out 33. So this one is for my dad,” he expressed.
He also talked about improving his strike rate and minimizing the dot balls. “I was just trying to minimize my dot-ball percentage. I just tried to time the ball and not hit it hard,” he added.
Earlier, Gill was also in excellent touch against West Indies, where he smashed 205 runs at an excellent average of 102.50. The right-handed batter has also represented India in red-ball matches. He has played 11 Test matches in which he has scored a total of 579 runs at an average of 30.47. Gill played his last Test match against England in July this year but only scored 21 in the match as the visitors were defeated.
