Shreyas Iyer and Amelia Kerr named ICC Players of the Month for February 2022
ICC recently unveiled the ICC players of the month for February 2022 as Shreyas Iyer from India bagged the men’s player of the month while New Zealand women’s Amelia Kerr was voted the women’s player of the month. Iyer was in tremendous form in the recently concluded T20I series against Sri Lanka where he amassed scores of 57*, 74*, 73* in the three games. The right-hander looked in supreme hitting mode and loved the role of batting at number three.
The 27-year-old has been in and out of the Indian side for the last year after the shoulder injury he picked up against England and he started his resurgence with an 80 in the final ODI against West Indies apart from the dominance against Sri Lanka. He answered in the best way possible and pipped past UAE batter Vriitya Aravind and Nepal all-rounder Dipendra Singh Airee for the monthly award. Former Sri Lankan cricketer Russell Arnold who was part of the voting panel heaped praises on Iyer for his recent display.
“Throughout the month Shreyas showed tremendous consistency and control. He totally dominated opposition bowlers and proved very hard to bowl at, scoring runs all around the wicket and attacking the bowlers at the right moments. What really stood out for me was his composure as he battles for a regular place in the India line-up,” Arnold was quoted as saying by ICC.
New Zealand youngster Amelia Kerr voted as Women’s player of the month
The white ferns would have been delighted to have found a gem in their lineup in the form of youngster Amelia Kerr who has been outstanding so far with both bat and ball for the New Zealand women. The 21-year-old finished with scores of 33, 119*, 67, 68*, 66 in the five ODI games against India ahead of the Women’s World Cup 2022 and picked up seven wickets in the series as well. Kerr edged past the India duo of Mithali Raj and Deepthi Sharma in the voting for women’s player of the month.
