Should India have allowed Ravindra Jadeja to score double century?

Ravindra Jadeja was in scintillating form in the first innings of the first Test match against Sri Lanka. The left-hander decimated the Sri Lankan bowling attack and scored a quick 175* at a strike rate in excess of 75.

But then, with Jadeja within touching distance of a double ton, India declared their innings, with their scorecard reading 574/8. Now, the question is, should Jadeja have been allowed the chance to complete his double century?

One thing to note is this was not Day 4 or Day 5 of a Test match and there was no need for India to be desperate. And, to be fair to Jadeja, the left-hander was scoring his runs at a very good pace. After he crossed 140, Jadeja scored his next 35 runs in just 29 balls. And, he would have hardly taken another 20 or 25 balls to breach the 200-run mark.

And clearly, there was ample time in the Test match, and looking at the way the Test match has ended merely inside three days, and India clinched the game with two days to spare.

Jadeja was in excellent form, and it was only a matter of time before he reached the coveted landmark. India definitely could have given Jadeja extra few deliveries to complete his first-ever double ton in Test match cricket.

Several fans took to Twitter to display their disappointment as he did not carry on despite scoring runs at an extremely brisk pace. At a time when draws are not very common, Rohit Sharma and the Indian think tank could have certainly waited for a little longer to allow their all rounder to reach a coveted landmark. After all, an opportunity to score a double ton is not one that comes visiting often!
