The second wave of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has caused havoc in India as the daily tally of the number of positive Covid-19 cases breached the horrifying 4 lakh mark for the second time on Wednesday. The rapid increase in the spread of the virus in the country resulted in the government opening the vaccination for all the citizens above 18.

From May 1, the government opened the vaccination centers for all the people belonging to the 18+ age group. Meanwhile, on May 6, Thursday, Shikhar Dhawan became one of the first active Indian cricketers to take the first dose of the vaccine. The opening batsman was plying his trade in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) postponed the tournament for an indefinite time in view of the coronavirus pandemic.

One of the first things that Dhawan did after leaving the Delhi Capitals (DC) was to get himself vaccinated. The veteran posted a picture of the same on his official Twitter handle to motivate other people also to step forward and get themselves vaccinated.

A few days ago, Shikhar Dhawan also showed solidarity with the people of India in these testing times as he became one of the first Indian players to donate. Dhawan donated ₹20 lakhs and money from post-match individual performance awards in IPL 2021 to ‘Mission Oxygen’ to help fund the requirement of oxygen.

The opening batsman represented Delhi Capitals in the now-postponed IPL 2021. The left-hander was on a roll throughout the league and was the highest run-scorer with a stunning 380 runs at an average of 54.29 and strike rate above 130.
