Shaw will struggle at the international level with his technique: Shane Warne
Prithvi Shaw’s selection for the opening Test against Australia raised a lot of eyebrows. The right-hander didn’t do much in the two warm-up matches and the fact that he was picked for the game at the Adelaide Oval didn’t go down well with a number of fans. The netizens reckoned that Shubman Gill should have gotten a chance as he was coming off a half-century at the SCG.
Shaw ended up having a horrendous outing. In the first innings, he couldn’t even open his account. In the very first over of the match, he fended at a wide delivery from Mitchell Starc only to find an inside edge on to his middle stump. It was pretty evident that the Thane-born looked short of confidence. In the second innings, yet another time, Shaw flattered to deceive.
Shaw fails yet another time
He scored four runs off as many balls before he fell prey to fast bowler Pat Cummins. He tried to play a defensive shot to an in-dipper from Cummins, who ran through between his bat and pad. Shaw’s stumps went for a walk and he tasted yet another failure.
In the meantime, Shane Warne, the former Australian cricketer, reckoned that Shaw will strain at the international level with his batting technique. The spin wizard also waited to see if Joe Burns was able to show some form after getting out cheaply in the first innings.
Other observations. No surprise that Burns struggled yesterday as he looks horribly out of form – fingers crossed he can get some in his second dig. Shaw will struggle at this level with that technique & a good debate with @mikehuss25 re keeping position in a team @FoxCricket !
