Shane Watson urges Cricket Australia to rope in Tim David ahead of T20 World Cup
Former Australian cricketer and one of the legends of the game Shane Watson wants Cricket Australia to figure out a way to rope in Singaporean cricketer Tim David in their national side. David, who has represented his home team Singapore, had been in talks with George Bailey, the chairman of selectors at CA as it turns out he is eligible to play for Australia.
The T20 World Cup is set to be hosted by Australia this year and will begin in October. The hosts and the defending champions will look to build a strong squad in order to defend their championship title at home. David, on the other hand, had been very impressive in the T20 format for not just Singapore, but also for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2022 this season.
“I hadn’t really seen much of him at all up until the IPL and seeing what he did there is something that I haven’t seen for a long time. For a young guy coming in and just dominating and just hitting the ball like I haven’t really seen in the past. So you just find a way, ” Watson was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
Tim David is such a valuable asset: Aaron Finch
Australian skipper Aaron Finch had previously weighed upon the importance of the event for Australia this year and had also mentioned a couple of players who would be anticipated for the World Cup. Given David’s power-hitting abilities during pressure situations, he would be a gem of an addition for the Men in Yellow.
“I think it’s important that time will come for Tim. He’s such a valuable asset. Guys with that much power who can bowl a few overs are good in the field, they will slot into a lot of T20 sides. So I think there’s going to be opportunities there no doubt, especially with the amount of cricket that’s going to be played over the next sort of three months until that World Cup starts,” said Finch.
David gave a glimpse of his batting prowess and showcased some great knocks in the IPL this year. Though Mumbai Indians had a poor season, they found a couple of worthy and reliable players in the squad and David was one of them. In the eight games that he represented the franchise in, he managed to smash 16 sixes and 12 fours taking his strike rate to 216.28.
