Shakib Al Hasan to miss Bangladesh’s UAE tour
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed that T20I skipper Shakib Al Hasan is not available for the UAE tour. Shakib recently joined Caribbean Premier League 2022 (CPL) side Guyana Amazon Warriors and had already taken NOC from the board before the announcement of the UAE tour. Nurul Hasan has been appointed the skipper of the team in his absence for the UAE tour.
BCB recently announced two-match T20I series in UAE starting from September 25 after their three-day training camp at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium was cancelled due to heavy rain. Minhajul Abedin, the chief selector at BCB, has revealed that all the selected players have to go through two fitness tests at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Thursday (September 22) before departing for the UAE.
”The fitness test will be given in two groups with the first group scheduled at 8:30 AM and the second group at 9:30 AM. This Yo-Yo test is to see where they stand fitness wise before going to UAE,” Minhajul told a sports news website.
Shakib will be joining the squad after October 4
Bangladesh will be playing two T20Is (25th and 27th September) and will return to Bangladesh on September 28. Then they will depart for New Zealand for a tri-nation T20I series involving Pakistan starting from October 7. Shakib will join the squad in New Zealand, as he has NOC from the board till October 4.
The veteran all-rounder led Bangladesh in the recently concluded 2022 Asia Cup, where they failed to reach the Super Four round with two defeats in two group stage fixtures. He recently replaced Mahmudullah as captain for the T20I team but will not be a part of the sqaud for the UAE tour.
As far as the squad is concerned, Soumya Sarkar has made a comeback while left-arm quick Shoriful Islam has also been included.
