Shakib Al Hasan banned for four matches of Dhaka Premier League
Shakib Al Hasan has been banned for four matches of the ongoing Dhaka Premier League for his unruly behaviour on Friday. He had shown dissent against umpire’s decisions, not once but twice, kicking and uprooting the stumps during the match. He was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club in the game against Abahani Limited.
The all-rounder also got into a scuffle with the opposition coach Khaled Mahmud who is also the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Director. However, Shakib had apologised to the officials, fans and the teams for his conduct and admitted to have ruined the game.
“I apologise to the teams, management, tournament officials and organizing committee for this human error. Hopefully, I won’t be repeating this again in future. Thanks and love you all,” part of Shakib’s statement on Facebook read.
The video of Shakib Al Hasan’s actions had gone viral within minutes of the incident and many had slammed him for his conduct. The likes of Lisa Sthalekar and Virender Sehwag also reckoned that the veteran cricketer should’ve behaved properly and criticised him.
Mohammedan Sporting Club confirms Shakib’s ban
The BCB hasn’t released any official statement yet but bdcrictime reported that the Mohammedan Sporting Club confirmed that Shakib Al Hasan has been banned for four matches. The umpires were also submit to report regarding the incident and the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) finalised the all-rounder’s punishment.
Accordingly, Shakib will now not be able to play in 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th round of the tournament. Going by the laws of the DPL, the 34-year-old has been accused of violating level three of which Shakib has broken two sections.
Shakib Al Hasan has been time and again in the news for all the wrong reasons over the last couple of years. His decision to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) while Bangladesh played Tests had created a little bit of ruckus as well. He was also banned for one year from international cricket by ICC for not informing multiple corrupt approaches during international matches.
