Sanju Samson assesses RR’s big defeat against DC

Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson was extremely disappointed with the team’s massive defeat at the hands of Delhi Capitals in the 58th match of IPL 2022. Samson added that though they were a few runs and wickets short, they also ran out of luck on several occasions with failed catches and bails not coming off after hitting the stumps.

After being put in to bat first, the Royals posted 160 runs on the board on the back of stellar innings by Ravi Ashwin (50) and Devdutt Padikkal (48). Even Samson couldn’t rise to the occasion and in the end, it was an easy chase for DC as Mitchell Marsh and David Warner went berserk. While Marsh starred with 89 off 62, Warner assisted his team to get over the line with an unbeaten fifty.

“Very disappointing night. We were a few runs and a few wickets short. It was a two-paced wicket when we were batting, we thought we were 15 runs short. We had some bad luck with a few catches falling in front and one hitting the stumps but the bail not coming off,” said Samson after the match.

Coming back stronger after losses is important: Sanju Samson

It is to be noted that Marsh survived an LBW scare when Trent Boult was in the attack but the Royals didn’t take the review and the RR skipper felt that ball had hit his bat rather than pad. ‘I thought it hit the bat and never made contact with the pad,’ reckoned Samson. Marsh was not only brilliant with his bat but also came up well with the ball in hand.

“Coming back stronger after losses is important, that’ll be our focus in the next game. Hopefully, we’ll get Shimron Hetmyer back soon,” he added

After losing the game, RR stick to the third position in the points table with seven wins while Delhi are now in the fifth position in IPL 2022 points table after grabbing their sixth victory.
