Sanjay Manjrekar bats for road safety awareness, calls out rule-breakers

Sanjay Manjrekar

Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar spread road safety awareness by sharing a video on his official Twitter account. Well, it’s one of the most debated topics across the globe and is often the most neglected too. While some drivers are very disciplined when to comes to maintaining road safety, others are not bothered by it and often end up hurting themselves and others along the way.

Manjrekar took it upon himself to bring a small change in the society and among the fellow Indians, who most of the time can be seen driving the vehicles recklessly and without using a helmet.

In a short video uploaded by the former Mumbai player, it can be clearly seen how some two-wheelers are coolly going on the wrong side of the road. Rather than sensing something is wrong, the bikers kept on coming at the wrong end, which made Manjrekar unhappy and disappointed. Apart from going at the wrong end, the bikers can also be seen not wearing their safety headgear.

The rule is compulsory in Maharashtra, but many people avoid wearing helmets, which in the end proves too dangerous. Apart from Manjrekar, legendary India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar too had uploaded a video of the same on his official account, on how riders and pillions are not putting their safety head equipment while travelling. With two legendary cricketers raising their voice on Road Safety Awareness we can hope for a slight change in the situation in the coming months.

Sanjay Manjrekar in the English commentary panel for the Sri Lanka series

The cricketer-turned-commenter will next be seen doing English commentary for India’s limited-overs series against Sri Lanka which begins on July 13. He will join Ajit Agarkar and Ajay Jadeja. Among the three names, Manjrekar has the most experience while commentating.

He started his commentary journey in the early 2000s and since then has gone on to become the leading voice in the commentary box. While he also created a fair bit of controversy along the way, Manjrekar still manages to get some brownie points by speaking accurately in match situations.
