England and Sri Lanka are involved in a much-anticipated three-match T20I series. England is currently leading the three-match series by 2-0. They won the first T20I by eight wickets followed by a victory over Sri Lanka in the second T20 International by five wickets at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.

The second T20 International saw a hilarious moment as English all-rounder Sam Curran showcased his football skills to send opposition opening batsman Danushka Gunathilaka back to the pavilion. The incident took place during the third ball of the second over. Curran bowled a short of good length delivery to Avishka Fernando.

Fernando missed hitting the ball and it stopped just near his pad. Sri Lanka’s opening pair then ran to complete a non-existent single. However, Curran, who was attentively watching the ball, quickly kicked the ball to score a direct hit at the keeper’s end.

This resulted in Danushka, who was coming from the non-striker’s end, losing his wicket. Thus, Sri Lanka lost their first wicket at a mere score of six.

The official Twitter handle of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) tweeted the video with the caption, “It’s coming home!” Back of the net, Sam Curran!”

England won by five wickets

As far as the match between England and Sri Lanka is concerned, the hosts were successful in stopping the island nation to a score of 111/7 in 20 overs. Kusal Mendis was the highest run-scorer with 39 runs off 39 balls. For England, Mark Wood and Adil Rashid picked two wickets each.

Chasing 112, England managed to post 108 runs in 16.1 overs. They were then declared the winners through the DLS method as the rain interrupted the play. Liam Livingstone scored the most runs for the hosts as he added 29 runs to the scoreboard.
