Sachin Tendulkar revives memories of Wankhede’s North Stand
Sachin Tendulkar has batted in countless stadiums around the world in his monumental cricket career. However, there is nothing like home. His bond with the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai is special. Like an elderly family member, it has seen him reaching one pinnacle after another. The Master Blaster recently revealed the story of how one stand, in particular, supported him immensely throughout his career.
“North Stand has always been special…We expected a lot of support from the North Stand. Not just for the international games but also for the first-class games. In Ranji Trophy matches, we would always look up to the North Stand to support us,” Tendulkar said in his latest video interview.
The North Stand is also famous for the banter it dishes up time and again. Tendulkar said that the team enjoyed those funny comments although they didn’t show it on the field.
Before Tendulkar was dazzling these crowds with his strokeplay, he himself had been a part of the North Stand crowd. During West Indies’ tour of India in 1983-84, the prodigy was in the stands witnessing his idols in action. His elder brother, Ajit Tendulkar had taken Sachin along with his friends to watch the Test match from the North Stand.
