Sachin Tendulkar lauds Green, Kohli and Gill’s century
In order to keep their hopes alive to qualify for the IPL playoffs, Mumbai Indians had to register a win over Sunrisers Hyderabad and the five-time champions eventually did it in style. Chasing 201 runs in 20 overs, MI skipper Rohit Sharma gave a perfect start to the home side. Later Cameron Green chipped in well, scoring his maiden IPL century and helping Mumbai win the match by eight wickets.
On the other hand, following MI’s win, Royal Challengers Bangalore had a tough job in hand. They had to beat Gujarat in order to topple MI in the IPL points table and qualify for the playoffs. Keeping that in mind, RCB started well as Virat Kohli hit a magnificent century in M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Based on his innings, RCB posted 197 runs board after 20 overs but that unfortunately wasn’t enough.
Shubman Gill played a phenomenal innings, scoring 104* runs off 52 deliveries to help GT win by six wickets. With that, RCB got eliminated from the competition while Shubman’s innings confirmed MI’s berth in the playoffs. Following this, legendary Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to laud the three centurions of May 21. He specially thanked Cameron Green and Shubman Gill for helping MI qualify for yet another playoff.
“Cameron Green & Shubman Gill batted well for @mipaltan. Amazing innings by Virat Kohli
too to score back-to-back 100’s. They all had their methods & were in the class of their own. So happy to see MI in the playoffs. Go Mumbai,” Sachin wrote.
