India’s legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar continues to add various prestigious awards to his ever-growing collection. The batsman has now been honoured with the Sportstar Aces Inspirational Giant of Indian Sport Award. The assessment for winners was based on their performance and consistency from 2011 to 2020.

Tendulkar, in a pre-recorded video before he tested positive for the coronavirus, thanked the jury which consisted of Sunil Gavaskar, Vishwanathan Anand, Aparna Popat, Anjali Bhagwat, Baichung Bhutia amongst others. Tendulkar once again emphasised his vision of turning India from being a sports-loving nation to a sports-playing nation.

The Indian team of the 2011 World Cup, which also included Tendulkar, was named the National Team of the Decade. The World Cup-winning squad ended the country’s 28-year wait for silverware in the 50-over format. India defeated Sri Lanka in the high-voltage final on 2nd April 2011 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai to become the World Champions. It was also a very special moment for the Master Blaster, who got his hands on a World Cup in his sixth attempt. Tendulkar also finished the tournament with 2,278 runs – the highest-ever achieved by a batsman in the tournament’s history.

“In 2011 came that moment at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai when we lifted that beautiful trophy…the best evening of my life. The whole country was celebrating. To all my teammates – it was a sheer joy to share the dressing room, to put in those hard hours in practice sessions… It was a joy to spend time together as one family. Congratulations to everyone for winning the Team of the Decade award,” Tendulkar told Sportstar.
