Saba Karim comments on Yuzvendra Chahal’s possible inclusion in T20 WC squad
Yuzvendra Chahal couldn’t make it to the T20 World Cup squad as the selectors went with the spin duo of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja along with a few other key names. Chahal experienced a lean patch in the first half of the IPL and wasn’t able to fetch any impressive performance in international cricket lately. However, he has got back to his rhythm in the UAE leg of the IPL and that has led to discussions of him getting into the squad for the mega event.
The leg-spinner has bounced back stronger in the second half of the tournament. In the five matches of the UAE leg so far, he has scalped 10 wickets and has put the team in a commanding position. In the match against Rajasthan Royals, he was awarded the Player of the Match for his splendid spell wherein he scalped two wickets and conceded just 18 runs.
Chahal then struck with an impressive performance against Punjab Kings as well wherein he helped RCB to confirm their seat in the top four. His recent performances have led to talks of him getting drafted into India’s squad for the T20 World Cup. However, former India cricketer and selector Saba Karim feels that it is too late now. He also added that the leg-spinner will have to wait as the form of the selected players will be considered before Chahal is given a green signal ahead.
Yuzvendra Chahal will have to wait for a little: Saba Karim
“I think it’s too late now. People have been talking about making changes in the squad, but that can only happen if someone gets injured. You also have to see Rahul Chahar was performing very well when he got selected. We saw both of them (Chahal and Chahar) in Sri Lanka, and his performances there were definitely noteworthy, which is why he was picked by selectors,” Saba Karim said while speaking on the Khelneeti podcast on Youtube.
“Now, in the second half of the IPL, Chahal has shown great improvement in his performances, which is very good. But he will have to wait for a little. The players who have been selected, their form and performances will be seen before Chahal is given a chance again,” he added.
