SA vs IND: 3rd Test, Day 2 – Bumrah breathes fire as South Africa tumble
The ongoing third Test between South Africa continues to proceed like a rollercoaster. The hosts looked on command after bundling India out for 223 in the first innings. However, things changed on Day 2 of the contest. Jasprit Bumrah made the red cherry talk and took a brilliant five-fer. As a result, the hosts got skittled out for 210, giving India a 13-run lead.
However, that’s not the end of the story. India lost both openers cheaply in their second innings, bringing the game again in balance. The battle is heading towards a thrilling finish and both sides would be determined to get the favourable result. Needless to mention, Day 3 would be crucial and could even decide the fate of the contest.
Meanwhile, let’s look at the talking points of Day 2:
Jasprit Bumrah’s five-fer
Having made his Test debut in Cape Town in 2018, Bumrah returned to the venue after four years and didn’t miss out on making a mark. The right-arm pacer was on the money right from the outset as he troubled Proteas batters constantly. Dismissing the likes of Keegan Petersen and Aiden Markram, Bumrah scalped his seventh five-fer in Tests as South Africa got bundled out for 210.
Keegan Petersen showcases resilience once again
Having scored a match-winning half-century in the previous clash, Keegan Petersen again played a resilient knock to bring his side out of trouble. While he played the challenging deliveries with precision, the right-handed batter didn’t miss out on the run-scoring opportunities. He eventually fell prey to Mohammed Shami but not before scoring 72 off 166 balls.
Indian openers failing to make a mark
As South Africa’s innings wrapped up in the twilight of the day, Indian openers KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal had to come out bat at a difficult time. None of the two could embrace the challenge as the visitors lost two wickets inside 24 runs. While Agarwal got out on seven, Rahul made 10. Their failures meant South Africa are still very much in the hunt.
