SA vs IND, 2nd ODI, Stats Review: Janneman Malan’s milestone and other stats
South Africa’s opening pair of Janneman Malan and wicketkeeper batter Q de Kock slammed half-centuries as the hosts made light work of the 288 runs chase to win the second ODI in Paarl subsequently clinching the ODI series 2-0 with one game in hand. Skipper Temba Bavuma who struck a ton in the first ODI scored 35 with out-of-form batter Aiden Markram along with another centurion from the last match Rassie van der Dussen both remaining unbeaten on 37 runs to defeat India by seven wickets.
Meanwhile, here are some of the important stats and numbers from 2nd ODI:
2 – Second duck for Virat Kohli against South Africa in ODIs and both times he faced five deliveries. His previous duck came in Durban in 2013.
85 – Rishabh Pant smashed his highest ODI score. His previous best was 78 against England in the year 2021.
288 – Joint-second target (288) successfully chased by South Africa against India in ODIs. They chased down targets of 288 in Delhi in 1991 and 297 in Nagpur in 2011.
5 – Fifth bilateral ODI series loss for India against the Proteas in South Africa. The men in blue have contested in six series and lost five since the year 1992.
21 – Quinton de Kock equalled Mushfiqur Rahim (21) and is now joint-fourth with him for most 50-plus scores by a wicketkeeper in ODIs at home. Kumar Sangakkara, MS Dhoni, and Adam Gilchrist have 36, 32, and 28 such scores respectively.
450 – Virat Kohli played his 450th match for India across formats.
4 – de Kock is now joint-third with AB de Villiers for most 50 plus scores (4) by a South African against India in home ODIs. Hashim Amla had six while JP Duminy and Gray Kirsten mustered five such scores.
31 – Kohli registered 31st duck across formats and is now joint-second with Virender Sehwag for as many ducks. Sachin Tendulkar had 34 naughts and is on top of the list.
7 – De Kock equalled Faf du Plessis and Herschelle Gibbs and is now joint-fifth with them for seven 50-plus scores by a South African against India in ODIs.
2 – R Ashwin registered his second-most expensive spell (0/68) in ODIs. He conceded 70 runs without taking a wicket against Pakistan in 2017.
7 – Q de Kock is now the fourth wicketkeeper batter with the most 50 plus scores (7) against India in ODIs. He surpassed Shai Hope’s tally of six such scores.
2017 – Kohli’s last nought away from home in ODIs came against Sri Lanka in the year 2017.
3 – Q de Kock now has the third-best average by a batter with a minimum of 10 ODI innings against India since 2010. Australian pair of George Bailey and Steve Smith is in the top two for averaging 71.00 and 62.38 respectively.
12 – Janneman Malan became the fastest player to 700 ODI runs in his 12th inning. Tom Cooper accumulated as many runs in 13 innings.
59.26 – Q de Kock boasts the best average by a wicketkeeper with a minimum of 10 innings against India in ODIs. Shai Hope has an average of 52.84 and is on second.
85 – Pant recorded the highest ODI score by an Indian wicketkeeper against the Proteas in South Africa.
2006 – Q de Kock and Janneman Malan shared a first-century opening partnership for the Proteas against India in a run chase since 2006. AB de Villiers and Graeme Smith had added 173 runs in Centurion in that year.
14 – Kohli equalled Suresh Raina and Virender Sehwag and is now joint-fourth with them for most ODI ducks (14) by an Indian from position one-seventh.
4 – Q de Kock also has the fourth-best average (59.26) by a batter with a minimum of 15 ODI innings against the men in blue.
