SA vs BAN: 5 players to watch out for
After the historic ODI series win by Bangladesh against South Africa, the focus will now shift to two-match Test series starting from March 31 (Thursday). The first match is slated to be played in Kingsmead, Durban while the second is scheduled to be played at St George’s Park, Port Elizabeth from April 8 (Friday). Here is a look at five players to watch out for in the series.
- Dean Elgar (South Africa)
Opening the batting, South African skipper Dean Elgar will have a lot of responsibility to provide a good start to his team. Talking about his numbers in the longest format of the game, Elgar has played 74 matches in which he has scored a total of 4637 runs. The left-handed batter plays at an average of 38.64. He has also stroked 19 fifties and 13 hundreds in the longest format of the game.
2. Temba Bavuma (South Africa)
After South Africa lost the ODI series under the captaincy of Temba Bavuma, the right-handed batter will look to play some handful of knocks for his team in the Test series. The 31-year-old has played a total of 49 Test matches in which he has scored 2418 runs at a decent average of 33.58. The right-handed batter has so far scored 19 half-centuries and one hundred in Test format.
3. Wiaan Mulder (South Africa)
Bowling allrounder Wiaan Mulder is expected to play a key role for the home side in the upcoming Test series. The right-arm pacer has impressed so far in his short Test career. Mulder has played eight Test matches in which he has scalped 14 wickets at an average of 29.71. Mulder has made 205 runs with the bat, averaging 15.77.
4. Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh)
Senior batter Tamim Iqbal will have a lot of responsibility in the upcoming Test series. The 33-year-old holds a lot of experience and will be a key player for the visitors. In 64 Test matches, Tamim has scored 4788 runs with an average of almost 40. The left-handed batter has made 31 fifties and nine hundreds in the longest format of the game.
5. Taskin Ahmed (Bangladesh)
Player of the series in ODI series, pacer Taskin Ahmed would want to carry his good form in the red-ball series as well. Tasking has so far played only ten Test matches in which he has scalped a total of 23 wickets. The 27-year-old also has two four-wicket hauls under his name in the red-ball format.
