Ruthless domination: Australia’s impeccable record in the day-night Tests

Australia is gearing up to face India in the day-night Test match at the Adelaide Oval which will mark the start of the four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The home team will be hopeful about setting up a 1-0 lead in the long series by bringing all the experience they have got while playing Test cricket under lights. Till date, as many as 14 Test matches have been played under the lights and seven of them featured Australia. India, on the other hand, have been part of only one Pink Ball Test match that too against Bangladesh at home.
Here are major records created in the day-night Test matches that took place thus far:
Team records:
Australia have got an impressive record in Pink ball Test matches as they won all the seven such matches they have played thus far. No team other than Australia has played more than four D/N Test matches and only one team other than the Aussies have won more than one Test match (Sri Lanka – 2/3) played under lights. Australia has also recorded the highest team total in D/N Test matches as they posted 589/3 in their first innings against Pakistan during the last year’s Adelaide Test.
Batting records:
Only two players in Test cricket have scored over 500 runs in D/N Test matches; both of them belong to Australia only. Steve Smith has scored 500 runs across 11 innings in D/N Tests with help of a century and three fifties. David Warner tops the list with 596 runs at an average close to 60. He even recorded the highest individual score in D/N Tests as he made an unbeaten 335 against Pakistan during the last year’s Adelaide Test.

Bowling records:
The domination in D/N Test matches is even higher for the Aussies when it comes to the bowling department as top four wicket-takers in these games belong to them. Mitchell Starc is on the top of the list with 42 wickets; about 14 scalps more than the next best. Starc has three 5-wicket hauls in the seven D/N Tests he has played thus far; the most 5-fers for any bowler. However, the record for best bowling figures in D/N Tests is in the name of Devendra Bishoo who took 8/49 against Pakistan in the 2016 Dubai Test.
