Russell Domingo’s contract might be extended till T20 World Cup 2022: BCB President
The contract of Bangladesh’s head coach, Russell Domingo could possibly be extended further till the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup which is to be hosted by Australia. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan stated that there are discussions taking rounds on this matter and that nothing is confirmed as of now. He however mentioned a possibility of Domingo’s contract getting extended.
Domingo was given the mantle of being the head coach of the Bangladesh side in August 2019 by the BCB on a two-year contract. It was then extended till the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in the UAE and Oman from October 2021. The BCB president asserted that they haven’t had a talk with Domingo on the extension of the contract and that the discussion about the same is underway.
“We have not taken any final decision in this regard. His tenure is till the upcoming T20 World Cup and there is no problem with it. There is a possibility that his contract will be extended. But we have not spoken with him about it. We are discussing it, after that we will take a decision,” said BCB president Nazmul Hasan as reported by Cricbuzz.
Bangladesh’s impressive recent performances
In recent months, the Bangladesh team has exuded some great character to produce splendid performances. They dominated the Zimbabwe side across formats. Bangladesh won the one-off Test and then also grabbed a series win in both the ODIs as well as the T20Is. However, their biggest victory came against the mighty Australians.
In the recently concluded T20I series Bangladesh registered victory by 4-1 and secured their first-ever bilateral series win over Australia. The visitors were completely outplayed by the hosts. Bangladesh’s performances fetched them praises from all around the cricketing fraternity. This came in as a big positive for the head coach Domingo and the other coaching staff as well whose contracts are expected to be extended.
“We are thinking of extending it for one year as we have two T20 World Cups and we are only thinking about these two events at the moment. We can get a clear picture after discussing it with everyone,” added Nazmul.
