RR vs DC Review – Royals march ahead in right direction
Rajasthan Royals hosted Delhi Capitals in the 11th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. While the Capitals had been looking for their first win of the tournament’s current edition, the Royals got back to winnings ways and extended the Capitals’ losing streak, thereby winning the contest by 57 runs and registering their second win.
The game started with Delhi Capitals winning the toss and putting the Royals to bat first. The hosts got off to a terrific start as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler put up a 98-run opening partnership before the former walked back to the pavilion late in the ninth over. After Jaiswal’s knock of 60(31), Buttler kept the runs coming and got to a half-century.
The Capitals lost quick wickets after Jaiswal’s dismissal as skipper Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag were dismissed cheaply for a four-ball duck and an 11-ball 7 respectively. Buttler and Shimron Hetmyer then took the game forward, and even after the former’s dismissal in the 19th over, the latter kept going as Dhruv Jurel assisted him well in the final over. The Royals, as a result, posted a 200-run target.
Delhi had a big task in hand, and they brought in Prithvi Shaw as the impact player in hopes of getting a strong start. But things did not go as planned for the visitors as Rajasthan’s pace spearhead Trent Boult picked up two consecutive wickets in the very first over to put a dent in Delhi’s batting unit as he dismissed Prithvi Shaw and Manish Pandey for ducks.
The bowlers breathed fire and kept taking wickets at regular intervals, thereby restricting Delhi from getting anywhere close to the target. While Boult finished with three wickets to his name, Yuzvendra Chahal too finished with three wickets under his belt. Contributions from Ravichandran Ashwin (2/25) and Sandeep Sharma (1/18) led to Delhi closing their innings at 142/9 and the Royals winning the game.
Top performers from the match
