Root welcomes second child with wife Carrie
England’s regular Test captain Joe Root on Wednesday (July 8) welcomed his second child with wife Carrie. He took to his Instagram page to announce the birth of the couple’s newly-born baby girl.
The 29-year-old is already a proud father to his son Alfred William, who was born in 2017 when the couple were officially engaged. The following year in December 2018, both Root and Carrie tied the knot.
Before the start of the West Indies series, Root had excused himself from the 1st Test to be with his wife. In his place, Ben Stokes took over the captaincy duties, becoming England’s 81st Test skipper.

Good luck boys @englandcricket We will be watching and supporting you all the way! #cricketisback
On Wednesday, rain played hide-and-seek at Southampton as both teams tried to get on with proceedings. Root posted a picture on Instagram with both his children and showed his support with a Barmy Army flag. The cricketer wished ‘good luck’ to the rest of the team, whilst spending some quality time with his newborn.
Once Root decides to come back, he will have to undergo a mandatory 7-day isolation period at home. He’ll then be able to join the team 3 days before the start of the 2nd Test at Old Trafford on July 16.
