Rohit Sharma not worried about Virat Kohli’s form
India whitewashed West Indies in a three-match ODI series that concluded on Friday (February 11). They hardly had to break a sweat in winning the games as the bowlers shined throughout the series. However, former India skipper Virat Kohli didn’t have a great time with the bat as he could muster only 26 runs in three outings including ducks in the last two matches.
In both games, captain Rohit Sharma got out early and it was a great chance for Kohli to end the wait for his 71st century. But it didn’t happen as the 33-year-old got out for a duck. No wonder Rohit was asked out Kohli’s form in the post-match press conference after the end of the third ODI. And the India captain laughed off concerns regarding the same while pointing out that the same batter scored two fifties in ODIs against South Africa.
Virat Kohli was one of the better batters for India in South Africa which the team lost 3-0. “Virat Kohli ko confidence ki zaroorat hai? Kya baat kar rahe ho yaar. It is a different matter that he did not get a hundred, but in the series against South Africa, he scored two half centuries in three games. I don’t think there is anything wrong. The team management is not at all worried about that,” Rohit said.
Middle-order shines for India in WI series
Meanwhile, India’s middle-order was tested throughout the ODI series by the West Indies. Their bowlers managed to get early breakthroughs with the new ball but the middle-order batters bailed India out of trouble always. While India were not under much pressure in the first game chasing a modest total, the last two matches saw Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer standing up for the team.
Surya scored 64 runs in the second ODI and rebuilt the hosts’ innings with KL Rahul (49) to take India to 238. In the final match of the series, Shreyas Iyer scored 80 runs and Rishabh Pant also impressed with 56 runs.
