Rohit Sharma comments on breaking Yuvraj Singh’s record
Rohit Sharma played a crucial 53-run knock to help India register a convincing 56-run win over the Netherlands in the 23rd match of the T20 World Cup 2022 on Thursday (October 27) at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Indian bowlers did a great job while defending the 180-run target at SCG and restricted their opponents to just 123/9. The win also propelled India to the top of the Group 1 table with four points from their opening two matches.
After their narrow escape against Pakistan in the clash, Indian batters put up a strong display while batting first. Rohit, who scored only four runs against Pakistan, has struggled for consistency in recent T20I games. But he looked confident against the Netherlands from the start and ended his poor run of form with a crucial fifty.
India lost their opener KL Rahul early but captain Rohit and in-form batter Virat Kohli played responsible cricket to help India cruise. Rohit struggled for big shots and also survived one drop-catch incident but changed his approach later and scored 53 runs off 39 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes.
With his last six, he has now become the leading six-hitter for India in T20 World Cup tournaments with 34 maximums, surpassing former batting all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.
When asked about breaking Yuvraj’s record by Harsha Bhogle during the post-match presentation, Rohit replied with a cheeky comment, “He won’t be too happy about it.”
