Rohit Sharma can be a successful captain :Trent Boult
The baton of India’s limited over captaincy has changed hands. Rohit Sharma will be captaining the Indian team against South Africa next month for the first time since being appointed the captain of the ODI team. In the past couple of days, a lot has been said regarding how Kohli was asked to vacate the leadership position, and the controversy created a massive uproar.
Kohli and Rohit have two different methods of captaincy. While Kohli is all about in your face, Rohit has always been very subtle. Their plans have worked in their favor, and several examples prove that. India has achieved several laurels under Kohli’s captaincy. Rohit’s captaincy has helped Mumbai Indians win the IPL trophy five times.
Former Mumbai Indians player and current New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult believes India will excel under Rohit’s leadership. Boult was a part of MI since 2020 when he was traded from Delhi Capitals. Boult mentioned that he observed Rohit while fielding near the ropes and understood a lot about him.
“Rohit is a very experienced player. It will be exciting to see how he leads the Indian team. I have enjoyed playing under his captaincy at the Mumbai Indians. I used to observe him and his captaincy, his tactics while standing at the boundary. He’s been an extremely successful player for India and I’m sure the team will perform well under his leadership,” Boult told Dainik Jagran.
Boult feels it will be interesting to see Rohit Sharma lead the Indian Team
Boult further added how a captain like Rohit understands the pressure and has his method of dealing with the same.
“He has been extremely successful for Mumbai Indians and there are high-pressure situations there. As a pace bowler, I can understand that but as a captain, he deals with this pressure well. I am sure Rohit will use his IPL experience towards the benefit of the Indian team,” Boult said.
Boult refrained from speaking anything related to Kohli’s captaincy as he is yet to play under him. On a question related to how similar or different Kohli’s captaincy is to that of Rohit’s, Boult said:
“I can’t say that with too much surety because I haven’t played a single game under Kohli but he has been an extremely powerful player and captain for India. Rohit can be a successful captain and it will be interesting to watch him lead.”
