Rohit Sharma becomes the highest run-scorer in T20Is

Team India’s sensational run in the T20I format continues as the Men in Blue thrashed Sri Lanka by 62 runs, earning a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. It was a comprehensive performance from the home team as the Lankan Lions hardly looked in the hunt. Meanwhile, the clash also saw Indian skipper Rohit Sharma adding another feather in his already-illustrious hat.

He went past the likes of Virat Kohli and Martin Guptill to become the highest run-scorer in T20I cricket. The 34-year-old, who scored 44 off 32 deliveries in the game, got the prestigious landmark after crossing the 37-run mark. With 3307 runs in 123 games, Rohit is now the highest run-scorer in the shortest international format. While New Zealand’s Martin Guptill (3299) dropped down to second place, Rohit’s partner-in-crime Virat Kohli (3296) is now third in the list.

Most runs in T20Is

Speaking of how the game panned out, India, while batting first, posted a mammoth 199/2 in their allotted 20 overs. While Rohit was pretty impressive, his opening partner Ishan Kishan stole the show with a stupendous 89-run knock. Coming to bat at number three, Shreyas Iyer also scored an unbeaten 57 off just 28 deliveries.

In reply, Sri Lanka kept losing wickets at regular intervals as they never really looked in the contest. The visitors were eventually restricted to 137/6, losing the contest by 62 runs. While skipper Rohit was pretty pleased with his side’s performance, he wants all the loopholes to be filled before the T20 World Cup, which takes place later this year in Australia.

“We are very clear with what we want to achieve with him in white-ball cricket,” said Rohit after the game. “We are dropping easy catches. Our fielding coach has some work to do. Come Australia, we want to be a great fielding side,” he added.
