It won’t be wrong to say that the inaugural edition of the Road Safety World Series was superhit as the cricket fans were delighted to see the legends of yesteryears once again take the field and weave magic with the bat and the ball. The tournament ended with India Legends winning the marquee event and lifting the elite trophy. Throughout the league, the cricket enthusiasts witnessed a lot of performances from both bowlers and the batsmen that left them stunned. Tillakaratne Dilshan
The most impressive performances were delivered by Sri Lanka Legends captain Tilakaratne Dilshan. The veteran aced in all three facets of the game be it batting, bowling, or leadership. The 44-year-old finished the marquee tournament as the highest wicket-taker and highest run-getter. In 8 games, the all-rounder boasts of having a stunning 268 runs under his belt at an average of 53.60 including two half-centuries. He also scalped as many as 12 wickets at an economy of 6.39 including one four-wicket haul. Besides, under his leadership, Sri Lanka finished at the second position in the points table.
Yuvraj Singh
Throughout the marquee tournament, India’s swashbuckling all-rounder Yuvraj Singh did what he is best known for, winning the games both with the bat and ball for the team. Just like his peak days, Yuvraj produced match-defining results as he emerged as the wrecker-in-chief for the team on more than one occasion. With the willow, the all-rounder smashed 194 runs at a stunning strike-rate of 170.17 and an average of 64.66. He again proved himself as a man for big moments as in the final, the fans saw Yuvraj hitting crucial 60 runs. Coming to the bowling, the 39-year-old picked 4 wickets in 4 innings at a strike rate of 7.11.
Upal Tharanga
Apart from Tillakaratne Dilshan, the other Sri Lankan player who shined bright in the tournament is Upal Tharanga. The wicketkeeper-batsman of the team finished as the fourth-highest run-getter with 224 runs from 5 innings. His 224 runs came at an average of 224 and a strike rate of 139.13. Upul also holds the record of smashing the highest individual score of the tournament as in a game against Bangladesh Legends, he had remained not-out at 99.
Sachin Tendulkar
Throughout the inaugural edition of the Road Safety World Series, the Master Blaster was at his fluent best with the willow as he smashed a stunning 233 runs in 7 games at an average of 38.83 and an impressive strike rate of 138.69. Sachin’s highest score in the series read 65 runs while he also contributed valuable 30 runs off 23 deliveries in the final. Apart from batting, Tendulkar also made headlines with his leadership skills as under him India successfully won the marquee tournament by defeating the Sri Lanka legends in the final.
Monty Panesar
The England Legends, under the leadership of Kevin Pietersen, didn’t have a good outing as they could win just 3 league games out of 6 played and finished at the second-last position on the points table. However, despite the team not performing well, the ace spinner Monty Panesar was successful in leaving his mark as he emerged as the second-highest wicket-taker with eight wickets under his belt in just 5 games. Monty was also economical as he bowled at an economy rate of 5.15 and an average of 12.25 with 4 for 26 being his best figures.
