Road Safety World Series: Top 3 run-scorers
The inaugural edition of the Road Safety World Series was a rousing success as the fans rejoiced watching some of the biggest names of yesteryears engage in competitive cricket for a heartfelt cause. The India Legends team overcame Sri Lanka Legends in the final, which was a repeat of the 2011 World Cup final fixture. The tournament saw some exceptional batting performances throughout. On that note, here is a list of the top three batters who finished with the most runs in the competition.
Sachin Tendulkar (India) – 233 runs
Regarded as the greatest batter of all time, India’s Sachin Tendulkar rolled back the years with some trademark shots in the inaugural edition of the tournament. The diminutive genius amassed 233 runs in the tournament in seven matches along with two half centuries to his name. He was one of the key players for the India Legends, who lifted the trophy by defeating Sr Lanka Legends in the final.
Upul Tharanga (Sri Lanka) – 237 runs
A classy opening batter in his heydays, Upul Tharanga was often overshadowed by Mahela Jayawardene, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara, and Sanath Jayasuriya in the Sri Lankan team. But the southpaw once again showcased his exemplary timing and precision in the first edition of the Road Safety World Series. The elegant southpaw registered 237 runs in six matches for the Sri Lanka legends with two fifties. He also produced the highest score of the tournament with an unbeaten knock of 99 runs.
Tillakaratne Dilshan (Sri Lanka) – 271 runs
Former Sri Lankan explosive opener Tilakaratne Dilshan had a prolific outing with the bat in the inaugural edition of the tournament. He finished as the leading scorer of the tournament with 271 runs to his name, scoring at an impressive strike rate of 136.86. He led the Sri Lanka Legends to the final of the competition on the back of his excellent all-round performance as he finished with the most runs and most wickets to his name in the tournament. He was named the Player of the Tournament for his exploits.
