Road Safety World Series 2021: All you need to know about England Legends
A cricket tournament aimed at creating awareness regarding Road Safety in India, Road Safety World Series is all set to go ahead from March 5, 2021, at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. The series will witness the superstars of yesteryears again performing and fighting to win the elite trophy.
The tournament was initially planned for March 2020 in Maharashtra and Pune, however, an increase in the number of coronavirus cases in India resulted in the Road Safety World Series getting paused mid-way. Thus, the authorities have decided to resume the event from where they had left last year.
While the four teams namely India Legends, Sri Lanka Legends, West Indies Legends and South Africa Legends will resume action, Bangladesh Legends and England Legends are the two new additions in the marquee event in the place of Australia Legends. For the inaugural edition of the Road Safety World Series, England has named a 15-member squad for former cricketers led by the great Kevin Pietersen.

Batsmen
England Legends have a fine batting line-up led by captain Kevin Pietersen. They have primarily four frontline batsmen followed by two all-rounders and one wicketkeeper-batsman. Among seven batting options, four are right-handed while three are left-handers which gives the team-management and the skipper plenty of batting combinations to try. Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott, Darren Maddy, and Owais Shah are right-handers while Phil Mustard, Gavin Hamilton and Usman Afzaal are left-handers.
All-rounders
This is the department where the England team might sound a little weak as they have just two all-rounders in their squad namely Usman Afzaal and Owais Shah. Both Afzaal and Shah are capable of applying finishing touches to the batting innings while chipping in a few overs as left-arm orthodox and right-arm off-break bowler respectively.
Bowlers
The Bowling attack of the England side can be considered as the most celebrated and strongest part of the whole squad. The team boasts of having as many as seven bowling options along with two all-rounders who can chip in with the few overs in the middle. Out of the nine bowlers, Usman, Owais, Monty Panesar, James Tredwell, Chris Schofield and Matthew Hoggard are spinners. Having six spin options is a major boost for England as Indian pitches are said to assist spin bowling. The three seamers in the squad are Ryan Jay Sidebottom, Kabir Ali and Chris Tremlett.
Wicketkeeper
As far as the wicketkeeping is concerned, Phil Mustard is expected to keep the gloves for the English side as he is the only wicketkeeper-batsman named in the 15-member squad. Mustard has effected 19 stumpings and 668 catches in 210 First-class games. He also has 9 catches and 2 stumpings to his name in 10 One Day Internationals for England.
Full Squad:
Kevin Pietersen (captain), Owais Shah, Philip Mustard, Monty Panesar, Chris Tremlett, Kabir Ali, Gavin Hamilton, Chris Paul Schofield, Jonathan Trott, Ryan Sidebottom, Usman Afzaal, Matthew Hoggard, James Tredwell, James Tindall and Darren Maddy.
