Rinku Singh reveals his struggle with serious injury

Rinku Singh was acquired by the Knight Riders in the mega auction in 2018, however, the youngster failed to live up to his potential. Despite spending four seasons with the KKR, he didn’t receive many opportunities to play. He was also ruled out of the IPL 2021 for the first half owing to a knee injury that he suffered during the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

“Those five years were really tough for me. After the first year, when I was picked for KKR and I got a chance to play, I couldn’t perform well. Still, KKR trusted me a lot and they retained me for the next couple of seasons,” he said in a video shared by the franchise.

The moment I fell, I thought of the IPL: Rinku Singh

Singh also revealed the time when he was out of the picture for almost six to seven months due to the injury and had to stay away from the game. He spoke about the emotions that he went through when he suffered the blow, and said the first thing that came into his mind, after the injury, was the IPL.

“I trained hard the way my body language is. The team never thought I was down. Last year was quite tough for me as I got a knee injury during the Vijay Hazare Trophy while running a double. The moment I fell, I thought of the IPL. They told me I needed an operation and would require 6-7 months to recover,” he stated.

“I wasn’t happy staying away from cricket for so long. My father didn’t eat for 2-3 days. I told him it was just an injury and it’s part of cricket. I’m the sole breadwinner of my life and when such things happen, it is bound to be worrisome. I was a bit sad, but I knew I would recover quickly as I had a lot of self-belief,” he further added.

Singh put up a brilliant show on display against the Lucknow Super Giants in the recently concluded game as he turned the game into a close encounter by smashing a 15-ball 40 runs, but unfortunately ended up on the losing side.
