Ricky Ponting sets team bonding goals for Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2022
After RCB, it is now the Delhi Capitals working on building a stronger bond between the team members. And in a move to do so, Head Coach Ricky Ponting has urged the senior players in the team to keep the doors to their rooms accessible for the youngsters as they prepare for the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. After the mega auction, the Capitals have bought in a slew of new faces, and Ponting’s first priority is to make everyone feel comfortable at the camp.
Ponting stated that he wants players like Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel and Anrich Nortje as well as skipper Rishabh Pant, to take the responsibility for easing the rookies into the team. Ponting also revealed that he will be having breakfast, lunch and dinner with the young entrants with whom he is unfamiliar.
“I have told the boys to keep their doors open when they are in their rooms and get to know each other. I am going to have breakfast, lunch and dinner with all the younger guys that I don’t know. When you show love towards the younger guys as a coach or a senior player, you know that they are going to give it back,” Ponting was quoted as saying by India Today.
“The guys who have been in the Delhi Capitals camp for a while definitely have the responsibility of guiding the youngsters in the team. Rishabh’s captain, so he’s going to do that anyway, but guys like Prithvi, Axar and Nortje will also have their roles and responsibilities within the team,” he added.
There’s an energetic vibe around the team, which is what we strive for: Ricky Ponting
When Ponting attended his first training session with the players, he was struck by the positive energy that surrounded the group. “At the moment, we need to really focus on what we need to do to get ready for game one. I had a great first session with the players. There’s an energetic vibe around the team, which is what we always strive for,” he said.
While David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Tim Seifert and Rovman Powell are the Delhi Capitals’ new overseas entrants, U19 Skipper Yash Dhull, Vicky Ostwal, Chetan Sakariya, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Sarfaraz Khan are among the new and young faces at the camp.
