Reports: VVS Laxman to replace Rahul Dravid as NCA head
Indian cricket is having a complete overhaul of their coaching staff as well as their management. The fans have witnessed several changes in the Indian team of late. One of them was Rahul Dravid, the former Indian captain being announced as the new head coach of the team.
The former Indian batting legend has been one of the greatest players of all time. However, his coaching career has been successful as well. The former Karnataka batsman was the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) as well.
Dravid had occupied this role since 2019. However, with him being announced as the new head coach of the Indian team, the BCCI will have to find a new head for the NCA. Several names have come up for taking up the role of the NCA head.
Rahul Dravid convinced VVS Laxman to become the new NCA head
If the current reports are to be believed, VVS Laxman seems the front-runner to take up this role. According to The Indian Express, the former Indian batsman was unwilling to take responsibility. However, he was late convinced by Dravid to take up this role.
According to TOI, Laxman is set to assume charge after India ‘A’ team’s tour of South Africa later this month. Thus, the 47-year old is all set to quit his role as the mentor of the Sunrises Hyderabad (SRH). His stint with the “Orange Army” has been fairly successful too.
“Laxman has agreed in principle. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah were very keen to have another stalwart to take forward Dravid’s project at NCA. Dravid and Laxman share a great understanding and the board wants synergy between Team India and NCA. The modalities of his terms of appointment are still being worked out. But he has already been sharing his ideas on NCA,” said a top BCCI official.
Other than this, he is also a TV commentator and is currently working at the T20 World Cup with Star Sports. Laxman was also appointed as the batting consultant in Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB)’s vision 2020 project. He has been applauded for his cricketing sense and knowledge time and again and thus, this seems to be a great move.
