Reports: Trevor Bayliss steps down as Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach
Trevor Bayliss, the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad, has decided to leave the franchise ahead of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. As per sources, the renowned coach is set to join hands with the Sanjiv Goenka RPS Group-owned Lucknow franchise.
Earlier on December 1, it was confirmed that Punjab Kings assistant coach Andy Flower parted ways with the team, bringing to an end his two-year association. Like Bayliss, Flower is also expected to be linked with one of the new franchises (Lucknow and Ahmedabad).
“He [Andy Flower] sent his resignation to the team recently. It has been accepted. There is a good chance that he goes to one of the new teams (Lucknow or Ahmedabad),” a BCCI official was quoted by Indian Express.
“It is correct, Andy has left Punjab Kings. He wanted to explore other opportunities and we respect that,” Punjab Kings co-owner Ness Wadia told Cricbuzz on Tuesday (November 30). Wadia, however, confirmed that Flower will continue his role with the Caribbean Premier League franchise St Lucia Zouks.
Meanwhile, Bayliss, who has an impressive coaching CV, having led Kolkata Knight Riders to two IPL triumphs (2012 and 2014) apart from winning the Big Bash League with Sydney Sixers in 2011-12, is learnt to have decided to “move on”.
“The Sunrishers Hyderabad management has also confirmed that they are looking for a new coach as Bayliss has decided moved on,” a Cricbuzz report stated, while also confirming that “he is still in Cricket Australia’s radar but is believed to be in talks with a few other IPL teams.
Bayliss had taken the role with Sunrisers after England won the ODI World Cup in 2019 under him. He also coached New South Wales to Sheffield Shield and one-day titles between 2004 and 2007, following which he was with Sri Lanka, who ended as the runners-up of the 2011 ODI World Cup under him.
Later with Bayliss at the helm, England went on to defeat Australia in the 2015 Ashes by a 3-2 margin, before playing the T20 World Cup final in 2016. He replaced Shane Bond earlier this year as the coach of BBL franchise Sydney Thunder.
