Reports: Kohli, Ganguly discussed India’s T20 WC roadmap during Lord’s Test
With the T20 World Cup 2021 being less than two months away, all participating teams are busy finalizing their squads and strategies. Team India is one of the favourites to clinch the title as the side has been nothing but phenomenal in the shortest international format. Barring their defeat to Sri Lanka last month, the Men in Blue haven’t done much wrong in T20Is in recent times.
While Virat Kohli’s men defeated Australia at their home last year, they thrashed the mighty England side earlier this year. As of now, the national team is in England for the ongoing five-match Test series against the hosts. While Team India is determined to thrash the Three Lions, one of its eyes is also on the T20 World Cup.
As per the latest development, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, secretary Jay Shah and vice-president Rajiv Shukla had an informal meeting with Kohli during the second Test match at Lord’s and various aspects regarding the global event were discussed.
Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly discuss about the T20 World Cup
“Yes, BCCI top bosses did meet Kohli but let’s say that it will not be fair to divulge the finer details of the discussion. But with very little time left for the T20 World Cup and India not having any games prior to the (IPL), the discussion was more about the roadmap going into the event,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by Mykhel.com.
While the inaugural T20 World Cup champions are expected to thrive in this year’s competition, they’ll face the problem of plenty while picking the final 15. Thanks to the Indian Premier League (IPL), India have a large pool of potent T20 stars. It’s indeed a good headache to have. However, it will be interesting to see who gets the nod.
The likes of Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, and Rahul Chahar have played just a handful of international matches. However, they have been impressive, and ignoring them won’t be easy for selectors. At the same time, the selectors need to name a formidable set of bowlers considering the workload of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.
Notably, the remaining matches of IPL 2021 will be conducted just before the global event. Hence, several players would be determined to shine in the gala tournament to make their case stronger.
