Reports: Jasprit Bumrah to miss three-match ODI series vs Sri Lanka

India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka. Reportedly, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a call not to rush the cricketer into action as he is prone to injuries.

Bumrah was previously added to the ODI squad on the recommendation of the all-India selection committee but the 29-year-old didn’t report to Guwahati, the venue of the first ODI between India and Sri Lanka. The pacer was previously training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and was declared fit but the Indian board is preferring to wait for some more time as the organisation wants Bumrah to be completely fit for the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy and the ODI World Cup.

Meanwhile, the Indian board is yet to formally announce the decision. As per a report in Cricbuzz, the selection committee has left the decision to the team management and they are working quietly on this. It is expected that the speedster will return for the New Zealand series to prepare himself before Australia’s tour to India.

Jasprit Bumrah out of action since Asia Cup

Notably, the Ahmedabad-born cricketer has been out of action for quite some time now and missed the Asia Cup and the all-important T20 World Cup in 2022. The Indian team suffered the consequence of his absence as the Rohit Sharma-led side failed to win any of the major trophies.

Now, even though Bumrah will be missing the ODI series, senior cricketers like skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer will return to the squad and all these players are likely to feature in the playing XI on Tuesday, January 10.

India’s updated squad for Sri Lanka ODIs: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya (VC), Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh.
