Reports: India to rest few senior players for the West Indies tour
As per the latest developments, Team India is likely to rest a few of their limited-overs players for their upcoming tour of the West Indies. India will tour West Indies for three ODIs and five T20Is, starting from July 22 to August 7, and as reported, some of the senior players will be left out of the tour, presumably.
The national selectors are yet to announce the squad, and the chairman of the selection committee, Chetan Sharma, who is with the team in England, might have a chat with senior players such as Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant, among others, after the Test match in Edgbaston, Birmingham, according to Cricbuzz.
Notably, India head coach Rahul Dravid has had to work with multiple captains in his short stint with the team, and hence the selectors might not entertain the idea of resting regular captain Rohit once more. In the previous two limited-overs series against South Africa and Ireland, Pant and Hardik Pandya took over the captaincy duties, respectively.
Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah set to be back in the limited-overs series against England
Kohli and Bumrah were also rested for the series against the Proteas and Ireland, and are set to be back in action in white-ball with the limited-overs series against England. Meanwhile, Rohit was ruled out of the fifth Test match against England due to an illness but is expected to return to the team for the limited-overs series, starting on July 7. The two teams will play three T20Is, followed by three ODIs.
Meanwhile, England won the fifth Test match, chasing a total of 378 with seven wickets in hand and levelling the series 2-2. It was also England’s highest successful run chase in Test cricket, courtesy of twin tons from Jonny Bairstow and a second innings hundred from Joe Root. It was also the ninth highest successful chase overall in the format and a fourth successful chase of 300 or above for the Three Lions.
