Reports: CSK’s Deepak Chahar likely to miss majority of IPL 2022 amid fitnesss issues

Deepak Chahar

In what can be called a major development, Deepak Chahar is set to miss the majority of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 amid fitness issues. The bowling all-rounder, who had been doing well in white-ball cricket lately, was re-signed by Chennai Super Kings for a whooping INR 14 crore during last month’s mega auction. Chahar also seemed determined to repay the faith of the officials and support staff.

However, it has been learnt that the fast bowler will miss a big part of the T20 competition, if not the entire tournament. As per the reports, Chahar sustained a quadricep tear during the third T20I against West Indies last month. The injury, that made him miss the Sri Lanka T20Is, is likely to take several weeks to heal. Hence, he might even miss the entire IPL season which will take place between March 26 and May 29.

CSK broke their bank for Deepak Chahar at IPL 2022 mega auction

According to ESPNcricinfo, CSK officials are waiting for a final assessment from the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, where Chahar is currently undergoing his rehabilitation. This is certainly a major blow for the MS Dhoni-led team as they went all out to get the 29-year-old on board. CSK piped the likes of Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad to reacquire Chahar’s services.

Notably, this was the first time Super Kings spent over INR 10 crore for a player at the bidding event. This shows the pacer’s significance in the team. Hence, the management would want the fast bowler to feature in most of the matches. After all, Chahar’s absence can put the team in a spot of bother as he is a genuine wicket-taker with the new ball.

Not to forget, the dasher has also made his bat talk in some recent assignments. As far as his numbers are concerned, Chahar, who has been associated with CSK since the 2018 season, has picked 58 wickets in as many appearances for the franchise.
