Reports: BCCI to name India’s squad for T20 World Cup on September 7
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to name India’s squad for the T20 World Cup on September 7. The multi-team event is scheduled to be played in the United Arab Emirates and Oman between October 17 and November 14, with India starting their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 24 in Dubai.
The BCCI is expected to name a 15-member squad for the world event, with at least three players as a reserve, most likely Ishan Kishan, Prithvi Shaw and a spinner. Any official confirmation in this regard, however, is yet to be made.
Currently, 20 members and four reserve players of the Indian team are in the United Kingdom for the ongoing Test series against England, which is currently levelled at 1-1, with India winning at Lord’s followed by England’s win at Headingley. The first fixture at Trent Bridge did not reap any result owing to persistent rain on the fifth and final day.
With two more fixtures – at the Oval and Old Trafford – left, the team will remain in England until September 16, before the IPL bound players leave for UAE, where the tournament will resume on September 19. The second leg of the league concludes on October 15, merely two days before the scheduled start of the T20 World Cup.
India shares Group B alongside Pakistan, New Zealand and Afghanistan, while Group A comprises England, Australia, South Africa, and West Indies. The Super12 stage of the tournament gets underway in Abu Dhabi on October 23, with Group A fixture between Australia and South Africa, followed by England and West Indies’ clash on the same day.
The group stage fixtures would conclude on November 8, followed by the two semi-finals on November 10 and 11 in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The final will be played in Dubai on November 14.
