Reports: BCCI sets eye on massive overhaul ahead of T20 World Cup 2024
After the heartbreaking exit for India in the T20 World Cup 2022 in the semi-final, a lot of changes are expected to take place in the Indian team. Some of the senior cricketers are likely to be shown the exit door while new blood might be inculcated into the side. The style of play India has adopted in T20 cricket hasn’t worked for a long time now.
With two years remaining for the next T20 World Cup, there will be a lot of thought process into trying out the youngsters who play without fear rather than the conservative approach which did not pay off in the semi-final. Notably, it has been nine years since India last won the Champions Trophy in 2013 and the hunt for an ICC trophy continues.
“India is all set to implement changes in the next two years to bring about a massive overhaul for the next T20 World Cup, that will take place in the Americas in 2024,” said close sources as quoted by NDTV.
India to opt for different style of play in next T20 World Cup 2024
Coming to the veterans, Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammad Shami might not be part of the T20I setup for long while 37-year-old Dinesh Karthik might miss out on future plans in the Indian side. Apart from the three, Bhuvneshwar Kumar who has been picked for the New Zealand tour is on the radar of BCCI, and might soon join the list as per the sources.
As for the three big names of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul are concerned, a lot of question marks are raised and their future is under jeopardy as well. Whether they make the way for youngsters remains to be seen, however, a call on them is expected to be taken soon. On the whole, the Indian team is expected to undergo a mega overhaul ahead of the next T20 World Cup to be held in USA and Caribbean.
