Reinstating Virat Kohli as captain will be the easiest solution for RCB: Ajit Agarkar
The Royal Challengers Bangalore would be heading into this week’s IPL 2022 mega auction with a lot of expectations and would be hoping to make the most of their resources in order to build a solid team as their hunt for a maiden Indian Premier League title continues. At the two-day event in Bengaluru, RCB will be eyeing a player with leadership abilities as they look forward to end their captaincy woes permanently.
Virat Kohli, who had led the franchise for nine seasons, decided to step down as captain after the conclusion of the 2021 edition and since then the Bengaluru-based franchise are yet to find his successor. However, former India all-rounder Ajit Agarkar has said that it would be better for Bangalore if they once again allow Kohli to lead them from the front as the three-time finalists have never invested in making a proper team with enough depth over the years.
RCB haven’t invested enough money in making a proper team, Ajit Agarkar
“If Virat Kohli can take over the captaincy and if he is happy to do it and if he has the energy to do it, I think that will be the easiest solution for them. At the end of the day, we have seen RCB over the years they haven’t invested enough money in making a proper team of 12, 13, or 14 players with enough depth,” said the cricketer-turned-cricket pundit while speaking on the Star Sports show Game Plan: IPL auction special.
With just a few days left for the IPL 2022 mega auction, Agarkar made it clear that the three-time runners-up have been relying on the top three and never had enough players in the middle-order. Furthermore, he also said that if the franchise decides to spend a phenomenal amount of money on a particular player, he would only be able to win them a few games irrespective of how talented he is and not the tournament.
“It’s always been dependent on the top three, not enough middle order players and if you don’t have the money, you can’t do that again”, he said.
“So, if you break the bank for one player, doesn’t matter how good he is – will win you games but will never win you competitions,” the ex-all-rounder added.
Months ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, RCB decided to retain the likes of batting megastar Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj and Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. Their star pacer Harshal Patel had bagged the Purple Cap last season with 32 scalps from 15 games but, the Royal Challengers Bangalore decided to release him.
