Records that were created and broken in Women’s World Cup 2022
The 12th edition of the Women’s World Cup has finally been concluded and it’s Australia that lifted their seventh trophy. The Women in Yellow defeated rivals England in the final by 71 runs at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Alyssa Healy grabbed all the limelight as she clobbered a staggering 170 runs to help her side in posing a big score of 356/5. During the course of the tournament which spanned a month, many big records were created and broken. Many players achieved various milestones in the marquee event which was held in New Zealand.
Let’s take a look at the records that were broken and created in the Women’s World Cup 2022:
- 7 – Australia won their seventh World Cup title. Out of the 12 editions held so far, the Aussies have won seven, England four, and New Zealand one.
- 509 – With 509 runs, Alyssa Healy scored the most runs in a single WC edition.
- 170 – Healy registered the most runs in a WC final in both Men’s and Women’s tournaments.
- 1 – Jhulan Goswami (43) surpassed Lyn Fullston (39) and is now the highest wicket-taker in World Cups.
- 2 – Nat Sciver’s knock of 148* is the second-highest score in a run chase in Women’s ODIs.
- 1 – Australia registered the highest team total (356/5) in a WC final.
- 201 – Goswami reached the landmark of 200 ODI matches. She became the second player overall after Mithali Raj to reach the milestone.
- 1 – Bangladesh made their first-ever appearance in a World Cup.
- 1 – Mithali Raj (13) went past Debbie Hockley (12) and has now scored the most 50 plus scores in World Cups.
- 252 – Goswami also completed the milestone of 250 ODI wickets.
- 1 – Healy also became the first batter to slam two centuries in the knockouts of an ODI WC.
- 1 – Healy also registered the highest ODI score (170) by a wicketkeeper.
- 2 – 641 runs were scored in the final between Australia and England which is the second-highest match aggregate in Women’s ODIs.
- 1 – Australia recorded the highest ever run chase (278 target) in WC history.
- 2 – Mithali (1321) surpassed Janette Brittin (1299) and is now the second-highest run-scorer in World Cups.
- 40 – Australia has now won 40 out of the last 42 ODIs.
