There is a lot of meticulous planning that takes place behind the scenes in sport, especially in the modern era. The IPL auction concluded on 18th February 2021, and several players raked in the moolah, as they were bought for colossal sums in the auctions.

And, Glenn Maxwell was one of the biggest beneficiaries in the auctions. The Australian all-rounder was pouched for a staggering sum of INR 14.25 Crores by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) side. Maxwell had even earlier stated before the auction that he would love to play for RCB and play alongside skipper Virat Kohli. And not only did Maxwell get his wish, but he will also be paid a colossal sum of money for sharing the dressing room with Kohli.

Now, the RCB side has released a video, which goes on to show the level of depth that they have gone into, and analyzed the auctions. The RCB side even ran an entire mock auction for Maxwell, with various members of their support staff donning the role of various sides.

Also, RCB Director of Cricket, Mike Hesson had even sensationally predicted that it would be the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) who would go all out for Maxwell. And, that was exactly the way it panned out as well, and it was RCB and CSK who bid for Maxwell on 18th February, and RCB managed to pouch the Aussie.

Mike Hesson reveals the reason why RCB bid for Glenn Maxwell

Mike Hesson also revealed the reason why RCB wanted to procure the services of Glenn Maxwell. Hesson was of the view that Maxwell is a very dangerous batsman to bowl to, especially between the 10th to the 15th over, and also added that since the 2014 edition of the IPL, Maxwell has an average of 28 and a colossal strike rate of 161.5 in the middle overs. Hesson further added that the Australian can also be a useful bowling option as well, and can slip in a couple of overs.

“The reason why we like him is that he’s the most dangerous in overs 10-15. Since 2014 in the middle overs, his average is 28 with a strike rate of 161.5. That would do us beautifully. And he can be a bowling option. We need somebody in that top 6 that can bowl 3-4 overs, but Maxwell can bowl two. Those numbers are exceptional,” said Hesson in a video released by RCB on Twitter.

Ahead of the 2021 edition of the IPL, RCB have a menacing batting lineup, with the likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Devdutt Pakikkal, and of course, Glenn Maxwell in their arsenal.
