Ravi Shastri on life post relinquishing head coach role
It’s been almost nine months since Ravi Shastri departed from the position of Indian head coach, but somehow it still feels a bit odd to see him in the commentary box and not with the Indian team. During the ongoing fifth Test between England and India in Birmingham, Shastri reflected on his coaching stint with the national team.
The 60-year-old was on the job for seven years, and although India failed to win any major ICC event under his reign, he revolutionized the culture in the dressing room with his hands-on approach. His influence on the Test team was evident from India’s tremendous outings on foreign soil. Now that he has relinquished his coaching role, he is once again luring the viewers with his iconic voice.
When the former head coach was asked about life since his coaching role, he didn’t hesitate for even a second to state how easy it is to watch things from the commentary box rather than being in the dressing room. The former head coach highlighted his experience with the Indian team and said that he cherished being there.
“Life is definitely easier in the commentary box (than coaching the Indian cricket team). It is fairly a relaxed job now but to be honest, I have been richer by the experience (India coaching stint). The seven-year stint has been a huge experience for me,” said Shastri during the lunch break on the third day of ENG vs IND ongoing match to News18 India.
Ravi Shastri spoke about his commentary stints in the near future
Shastri is currently under contract with SKY and is commentating on the ongoing fifth Test between England and India, and when asked about his future commitments, the former Indian cricketer revealed that he will be busy for the whole English summer, which will include the white ball series following the Edgbaston Test along with T20 blast.
“No yar, I am whole summer here in England as I have this contract with SKY for the whole summer. Doing all the matches of English summer which includes T20 Blast as well.”
“The series is not on TV, and it will be on FanCode, and I will be doing commentary for them from here (England),” Shastri spoke about covering India’s tour of the West Indies.
