Ranji Trophy 2022: Top five performers from group stage
The group stage of 2021-22 Ranji Trophy is done and dusted. As compared to previous editions, there was changed format this time with each squad getting to play three games only in the group stage, and only the winner going through from each group. On that note, let’s check out the top five performers in Ranji Trophy during the group stage.
Rohan Kunnummal (Kerala)
Making his debut for Kerala, Rohan Kunnummal stroked three back-to-back hundreds in the group stage. The right-handed batter gave the impression of having been around for ages. His form was the prominent reason for the resilient displays of his State. Talking about his numbers, Kunnummal had scored 417 runs in three matches he played in the tournament. The 23-year-old batter has a whopping average of 139 in the tournament.
Baba Indrajith (Tamil Nadu)
Tamil Nadu batter Baba Indrajith once again stole the limelight in group stages of the Ranji Trophy 2021-22. The 27-year-old batter was in remarkable form scoring 50+ every time he was at the crease. The right-handed batter also stroked a hundred against each of the three teams in Tamil Nadu’s group including Chhattisgarh, Delhi, and Jharkhand. Indrajith scored a total of 396 runs in four innings he played for his team while having an outstanding average of 99.
Het Patel (Gujarat)
Gujarat had a disappointing outing in the current edition of the Ranji Trophy as they lost two out of three games. One of the biggest reasons for their exit was the failure of their top-order to get going. However, the young wicketkeeper-batter Het Patel proved his mettle and his best came against Kerala when played a magnificent knock of 185 runs. The 23-year-old amassed a total of 429 runs at an average of 85.80 in five innings.
Shams Mulani (Mumbai)
Left-arm spinner Shams Mulani ended as the highest wicket-taker in the group stages. The 24-year-old was easily the best player for his side Mumbai in the group stages, chipping in with performances just when the team needed him the most. Mulani bowled a total of 157 overs in the group stages of the tournament scalping a total of 29 wickets that too with an average of 15.62. The 27-year-old will be a key performer for his side at the business end of the tournament.
Satyajeet Bachhav (Maharashtra)
Another left-arm spinner on the list, Satyajeet Bachhav was a key performer for his side as he picked two seven-wicket hauls in an innings – against Assam and Uttar Pradesh. Talking about his numbers, Bachhav scalped a total of 21 wickets in a total of five innings he bowled. The 29-year-old bowled with an average of 19.61 and was one of the key performers for his side Maharashtra.
