Ramnaresh Sarwan steps down as West Indies selector citing personal reasons
Former West Indies captain Ramnaresh Sarwan has resigned as the selector of men’s senior and junior teams with immediate effect citing personal reasons. His term was set to continue till 2024 but Sarwan completed only five months in the position before coming up with a sudden decision on Monday (May 30).
Robert Haynes has replaced Sarwan for now on an interim basis until Cricket West Indies (CWI) recruits a new candidate for the vacant position. Haynes, who was a legspinner during his playing days, is also serving as one of the selectors in the junior panel. Desmond Haynes is the head of the current selection panel of the senior men’s team while head coach Phil Simmons is also part of it.
CWI’s Director of Cricket Jimmy Adams was disappointed that Ramnaresh Sarwan wasn’t able to continue as a selector but also understood the reasons for the same. He also thanked the said person for his contribution to West Indies Cricket during this period.
“Given the depth of his experience in the game, we are disappointed that Ramnaresh is unable to continue in the role of selector, but we fully understand and accept his reasons. We are grateful for his contribution during the period he was involved and hope that he will be able to contribute to West Indies Cricket in some capacity in the future,” he said according to ESPNCricinfo.
