Rain has the final say as India vs Pakistan deferred to reserve day
The marquee match between Pakistan and India saw Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill bat brilliantly before rain played spoilsport. Both openers were incredible, hitting 56 runs 58 respectively, before walking back to the pavilion. Their aggressive approach helped the Indians settle down really quickly, and that put pressure on the Babar Azam-led side. Shaheen Shah Afridi, who troubled the Indian batters in the recent past, got smacked and that set the tone of the match.
Shubman Gill decided to go after the ace pacer and it gave India a perfect start. Later on, Rohit joined the party by taking on Shadab Khan. The 36-year-old hit 19 runs off Shadab’s first over and looked in great touch. However, despite starting well, neither of them could capitalise and reach the three-figure mark. Both Shadab and Shaheen made a strong comeback to send the Indian openers back.
Virat Kohli and KL Rahul took control of the situation after that. The returning Rahul took some time to settle down, but he showed his glimpses of class as well. He is currently batting on 17* runs, while Virat is on 8*. Notably, in the 25th over, the rain came pouring down, and the umpires were forced to stop the game. After the rain stopped, the groundsmen worked tirelessly to restart the game and were close to achieving the feat, but the rain once again came pouring down and the umpires had to call off the day as it will resume once again at 3 pm on Monday, September 11.
On the other hand, the fans were extremely disappointed to see another day getting drained out due to rain. They expressed the same on X and many also questioned ACC president Jay Shah for giving the green light to Sri Lanka as it’s currently the rainy season in the island country. Rain is slated to interrupt the game on Monday as well and if the match is once again called off, both teams will share one point each.
