Rahul Dravid gives his verdict of Indian players not playing in foreign league
Indian Head coach Rahul Dravid feels that the packed schedule at the moment will lead to Test cricket bowing out if BCCI allows Indian players to participate in foreign leagues. The Rohit Sharma led-side yet again crashed out in the knockout stages of a T20 World Cup despite dominating the Super 12 phases and to add salt to the wounds, it was a complete hammering from the England side who finished the game in 16 overs with ten wickets in hand.
Alex Hales who had come into the tournament with enormous experience in Australian conditions proved to be the game-changer for England as he scored a 47-ball 86 with seven sixes in the run-chase. His BBL experience proved to be a massive factor while Indian bowlers were taken apart to all ends.
After the loss, Dravid was questioned if BCCI should reconsider its decision and send Indian players to foreign leagues to get used to the conditions like all other teams.
It’s up to the BCCI to make the decision: Rahul Dravid
Dravid mentioned that Indian domestic cricket and the Ranji Trophy would be under threat if BCCI sends Indian players to participate in foreign leagues and felt that Test cricket could bow out as well.
“In that case, our domestic cricket will be finished. Need to be very careful. It will affect Ranji Trophy and Test cricket. I do not want it to go that way,” Dravid told in the press conference after the game.
On whether, the BBL experience for other played a big part in India’s loss, Dravid felt that India’s peak scheduling has no room for it at the moment and added BCCI would take a decision on it.
“Yeah, lot of their players have come here (for BBL). Most of these tournaments happen at the peak of our season. Really up to the BCCI to make the decision (allowing Indian players in overseas leagues),” he added.
