R Ashwin lauds Kuldeep Yadav after recent heroics

Once a force to reckon with, Kuldeep Yadav lost his mojo in between. However, he roared back and once again made the headlines for his bowling quality after getting a few opportunities with the national team. In the recently concluded South Africa series, the spinner picked up six wickets in three matches and was also the leading wicket-taker of the series.

Based on his terrific performances, senior pro Ravichandran Ashwin lauded Kuldeep and spoke about his strength in detail. The 36-year-old, who is currently in Australia for the T20 World Cup, feels Kuldeep’s strength lies in his consistency.

“I have always felt this about Kuldeep Yadav when we talk about wrist spinners. He has got this amazing feature to bowl the repetitive lengths that are required to do well in the long format. He can land in a particular spot whenever he wants, and that’s a fantastic quality for a wrist spinner. That’s a massive value for a wrist spinner,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

He can make things happen with both bat and ball: R Ashwin on Shardul Thakur

Meanwhile, even though he was not originally drafted as one of the potentials in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup, Shardul Thakur has flown to Australia. Against South Africa, the 30-year-old picked up three wickets in three games and also contributed with the bat in crucial times. Based on his performance, the Indian management called him up as one of the reserve pacers to replace Deepak Chahar, who has picked a back and hip injury.

Ashwin who followed the bi-lateral series identified Thakur’s quality and hailed him for his all-round skills in the video. “He can make things happen with both bat and ball. He picked wickets and scored runs too during the backend of the game when we were really struggling. He stitched a vital partnership with Sanju Samson.”
