PSL set to clash with IPL in 2025 after ICC announced their FTP
If things go according to the schedule, then the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is all set to clash with the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the year 2025. After the ICC announced the Future Tours Programme (FTP) for the 2023-2027 period, it can be seen that Pakistan will not have a proper window to host the T20 tournament after they are also slated to host the Champions Trophy in 2025.
The PCB host their premier tournament in the months of February and March but with the Champions Trophy scheduled to take place in early 2025, the board might have to shift their tournament to March and April. In case of that, the tournament will directly clash with the IPL. If they plan to go ahead with that, the tournament is likely to suffer as the attention normally remains completely on the IPL.
It will be very difficult for them to host it later in the year as well considering their international schedule and the other T20 leagues that would be happening all over the world. Pakistan might be forced to organize the tournament in the same window of March and April in 2025.
Both the tournaments were very close to clashing in 2022 as well. However, Pakistan decided to host it in the months of January and February to avoid any confrontation.
Pakistan will play at least 27 Tests, 47 ODIs, and 56 T20Is in the next five years
With the ICC releasing the FTP, it is now confirmed that the Pakistan team will now play 27 Tests, 47 ODIs, and 56 T20Is from 2023 to 2027. The Men in Green will play Bangladesh (home and away), Australia (away), England (home and away), New Zealand (home), South Africa (home and away), Sri Lanka (home and away), and West Indies (home and away) as part of the World Test Championship cycle.
The PCB also promised to host a triangular series involving New Zealand and South Africa in February 2025 while another in late 2026 involving Sri Lanka and England. Pakistan will also play a five-match T20I series against England before the 2024 T20 World Cup. Teams like Australia, Ireland, Afghanistan and Zimbabwe will also travel to Pakistan for bilateral series in Pakistan.
