Priya Punia loses her mother to COVID-19
The COVID-19 catastrophe has already caused limitless damage around the world and the second wave in India added more to it. There have been various people who lost their loved ones amid this crisis and the cricketing world is no different. In the most recent turn of events, India’s women’s cricketer Priya Punia lost her mother to COVID-19. Punia spoke about her personal loss on her official Instagram handle.
Posting about her mother’s demise, Punia added that she was always her guide and kept her strong through thick and thin. In the post, the young cricketer shared many pictures with her family where her mother can be seen posing affectionately with her.

Talking about how the cricketing world got affected by COVID-19, Piyush Chawla and RP Singh lost their fathers to COVID-19. Veda Krishnamurthy also suffered irreparable loss as she lost her mother and sister both to the deadly virus recently. While the other parts of the world have suffered the repercussion of the virus, the second wave in India doesn’t seem to end for now.
Talking about Priya Punia on the professional front, her journey with India is doesn’t date back long. She marked her T20I as well as ODI debut in 2019. For now, she has donned the Indian jersey in five WODIs and three WT20Is. In May 2021, she got named in India’s Test squad for a one-off match against England’s women’s cricket team.
